A huge warm welcome to our 18th Global Citizen, Numen Huang.
Numen is 39 and has been living in Shanghai, China for the past 35 years where he has been working as a Support Manager for Operations for the past 8 years in an International company.
Numen has recently made some changes to his life as he felt stuck, not just physically but also mentally. He tried to find a way out of the dilemma, ‘which direction should I go?’ His dilemma saw two paths, a constructed path following the rules and satisfying the boss and a spiritual path following no constructed rules and satisfying himself.
He has started to explore the later by travelling, climbing mountains, music, swimming, martial arts such as TaiChi and Akido, Zen meditation and yoga, watching all genres of movies even if they are not his go-to genre and reading all manner of books, especially spiritual ones. He is eager to find out who he truly is and to develop the courage to face life and any situation it throws at him with a balanced mind and outlook.
Thank you Numen for taking the time to share your thoughts with Global Citizens.
What makes you happy?
People who like me and whom I like.
…think of each other.
…are willing to be with each other.
…listen to each other.
These people make me feel connected and safe.
Sometime I prefer to be alone, with myself and take the time to look inwards for my own inner peace. This also makes me happy.
What makes you sad?
When people suffer while I am fine or I suffer while others are fine.
When people misjudge me based on my outer conditions, society’s constructs or wrong information.
When my efforts or contribution to a situation are underestimated.
When people stop communicating, especially amongst friends, relatives and family members.
These things make me sad as I consider everyone to come from the same root source. We are the same.
What makes you proud?
When I help people and if I can, solve their problems. I am proud because my actions can make someone happy and the consequence of my actions will influence others to act positively and I too will see return in their actions.
What makes you wonder?
I wonder who I truly am.
I am always thinking about…
…why was I born?
…why am I experiencing all the things in my life?
…when will I leave the world?
…what’s the purpose of my life?
Am I a body, soul, ego or some other mysterious thing?
What does it mean to be human?
Now I feel to be human is just one profile or one aspect of the root spirit that is life. Since the spirit of life is intangible it manifested itself in all kinds of appearances, including the human form.
Thus, as humans we are all the root spirit of existence and we need to help each other. We need to satisfy each other, cheer each other up, encourage each other, save each other and enlighten each other.
When we act in this way we are not just doing good for ourselves, we act as mirrors and our good actions are reflected among us.
How do you feel when your efforts are underestimated?
When did you last cheer someone up?
How would you answer if you were asked?
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read Global Citizens.
Have a great day.
