A huge warm welcome to our 25th Global Citizen, Michael Yang.

Michael is 27 and comes from Beiliu in Guangxi Province in the South East of China. He has been living and working as a PE Teacher for the past two years in Guilin, Guangxi.

Michael has worked as a PE Teacher since graduating university and while he loves his job, his true passion is football, playing, watching, listening to, talking about and teaching football.

After two successful years coaching the boys and girls football teams at his school, he has now taken on a part-time position with Guilin’s top football team as a coach and will complete his football coach qualification in August through The Chinese Football Association.

Thank you Michael for taking the time to share your thoughts with Global Citizens.

What makes you happy?

There are so many things that make me happy…

…my best friends,

…my partner,

…my family,

…a fulfilling chat,

…travelling and seeing the world.

And of course, there is football!

I feel happy when we win an important match.

I feel happy when my students enjoy my football lessons and we share a passion for football.

I feel happy when Liverpool do well in their games.

What makes you sad?

I feel really sad when someone I love – family or a friend – is in poor health and they are suffering and there is nothing I can do to help.

I feel sad when my team loses.

I feel sad when people leave.

What makes you proud?

When I see my students starting to like and love football, starting to be part of a team, starting to work together, starting to be something bigger than themselves.

When I see their passion growing and knowing I was part of their journey makes me proud.

What makes you wonder?

I wonder about many things, big things, small things…

Why is humanity destroying the Earth and each other? For what purpose?

Are there aliens? Can they see us? What do they think of us? Will I get to meet one in my lifetime? What will I say?

Why did Liverpool lose to Sevilla?

What does it mean to be human?

To be human is to live in harmony with each other.

To respect each other.

To be human is to work together to protect the Earth for us and for future generations.

We only have one Earth; will we have to move to another planet just to survive?

When was the last time you were part of a winning team?

When was the last time you were part of a losing team?

How would you answer if you were asked?

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read Global Citizens.

Have a great day.
